The 2014 annual survey of the childcare market, provided by LaingBuisson, puts the value of day nurseries in the UK at £4.9bn, a rise of 4 per cent in real terms. The report analyses the full day-care nursery sector, but does not take into nannys or child-minders who contribute significantly to the overall marketplace too. The report reveals optimistic expectations from nursery businesses and from investors. Economist Philip Blackburn, the report's author, told Nursery World, 'Optimism is much stronger. A lot of nurseries are in a good position. The economy is lifting and the labour market is lifting to support demand Mr Blackburn said that bank lending has improved and that nurseries have better cash flow. 'A lot of overseas investors are interested in (investing and buying) bigger firms. There is not an absence of investment – we will see some stronger growth.' Findings from this Children's Nurseries UK Market Report 2014 also show a 6.5 per cent rise in the number of children attending nurseries, although children's attendance was shorter than during the previous period. Demand was driven by the Government's expansion of subsidised two-year-old places. Recent Government budget have provided incentives for both employers and parents, making a contribution through tax allowances for any single parents or households where both parents are work and therefore daytime childcare is a necessity   Childcare Vouchers are available to all working parents in the UK. They can help each parent make up to £933 of tax and National Insurance savings per year on their childcare costs, until their child is 15. The scheme is implemented through your employer's payroll via a 'salary sacrifice' scheme, which means you swap part of your salary to pay for childcare. Childcare Vouchers can be used to pay for all types of childcare as long as it is registered or approved by the registering body for the region. They are most commonly accepted by registered childminders, day nurseries, playgroups, holiday schemes, and breakfast and afterschool clubs.    Employers for Childcare voucher LaingBuisson attributes the rise in demand to stronger economic growth, a high early year's population, and the ongoing rise in more mothers returning to work. UK unemployment is at an all-time low and there is a growth in demand for skilled and trained workers of all types. This is fuelling a more fluid workplace in terms of the options offered to mothers who can return to work after a number of years looking after children at home or can continue to work whilst their children are in their early years and are more supported in doing so my the workplace environment than ever. According to the report, 42 per cent of mothers with children under four were working full time in 2014 compared to 34 per cent in 2003. In 2013 LaingBuisson estimated that the extension recent of Government tax incentives to fund places at nursery/playschool etc. for two-year-olds would lead to a growth in the number of children attending nurseries by 10-15 per cent in total over three years. The report says that 'current take-up confirms the top end of this projection is certainly more likely at the moment'. There had been calls for increase Government assistance to working mothers from many corners previously. A 2011 report jointly produced by the writers of the report quoted above LaingBuisson and the University of East London (UEL) looked particularly at the London market for childcare services. At that time their report commented 'There is a potential equity failure on price – but much depends on prevailing tax and benefit policy. Research shows that around a quarter of people find paying for childcare either difficult or very difficult. Nationally, lone parents report being disproportionately affected by childcare costs, as do the low paid report and those with larger families. Whilst of significant help, tax credit take-up is problematic. Take-up for single parent working families in London is above average, but take-up for working couples in London is acutely low. Whilst wages in London are relatively high, once housing costs are accounted for, many London areas move into the bottom income bands. This may be a contributory reason to why high childcare costs act as a barrier to part-time employment in London – which particularly affects mothers' rates of employment. At the heart of this issue is the way that the benefits system operates for people in different circumstances. More work is needed on the precise interaction between the tax and benefit system and housing costs in London. See http://www.nurseryworld.co.uk/nursery-world/news/1148138/growing-childrens-nurseries-market-worth-gbp49bn for the remainder of the report. It's comments seemed to have at been part of the cause of the recent tax incentives offered by employers and facilitated by Government Tax credits.   We offer three courses aimed at preparing you for a career or developing your career in Childcare in the UK in particular but with a particular in London where a current population size of 7-8m is expected to creep up in the years to come with the extent of current migrant activities inwards to the UK.
