a continual flow of fresh expertise. A lot of this is fulfilled by graduates and school
leavers, but the Training industry is relied upon to upskill teenagers and adults and
provide industries with workers who hold sector-specific qualifications.
Vocational training is everywhere. Whether its private industry, the Civil Service,
Local Government, national government, or the charity sector.
How to get into Training
In order to become a Trainer, you need to hold industry-standard qualifications that
prove to both training providers and awarding bodies alike that you’re the right
person to impart information to a classroom of learners, in a way that will make them
pass exams and retain knowledge.
Assessors need to be self-assured, confident individuals who are adept at
articulating large amounts of information in a relatively short space of time. Many
trainers have themselves studied vocational qualifications, and in doing so, realise
that they’re the kind of person who would do well at the front of the classroom.
Qualifications
PTLLS is short for ‘Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’, a
qualification from City and Guilds or Edexcel. It’s offered as a first step towards
teaching in post-compulsory education (i.e. students over 16).

 PTLLS Level 3 Award in Education and Training
 TAQA Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (QCF)
