The Construction Industry is a Great Place to Work in 2017. Here's Why.

When it comes to deciding on which career to pursue, we are aware of those career paths that are approved by the general consensus (e.g. accountancy and law). Even though these career paths may be highly respected in society, it is not for everyone. But luckily, there are some career paths, which may seem less appealing on the outside that are actually quite rewarding and fulfilling. And the construction industry represents one of those careers. And in this post, I am going to share why I think this industry is going to be a great place to work in 2017.

Growth Expected

According to the Construction Products Association's (CPA) website, construction output in the UK is expected to rise by 3.6% in 2017. Growth is also expected in the warehouse sector by 23.7% and infrastructure development by 56.3% before 2019. So as you can see from those figures, the UK is expected to see growth in the construction industry. And that means there are going to be more opportunites to find work in this sector as well.

There is a Demand for Construction Workers

According to Building.co.uk, the UK's leading provider of the latest news in the construction industry, there is a demand for construction workers. At the moment, there are 390,000 less workers in the construction industry than there was in 2008 -- when the industry was at its peak. The reduced workforce has been due to the lack of skilled workers in the field.

Still Not Convinced?

I have outlined the growing need for construction workers, and I've told you how TLS can make it easy to get your foot in the door, but maybe you're not convinced yet. Here are a few more reasons why you should consider a career in construction.

1. You'll Be Helping to Improve Your Local Economy

It's true that everyone that has a job, even if that job is serving up food at a restaurant, contributes to their economy. However, when you're in construction you'll be building homes for people, businesses and civil services. In a way, you're helping to build the infrastructure of a thriving community. And in doing so, you'll be boosting the economy too.

2. Career Progression

Working in construction doesn't mean you'll be a labourer all your life. There is definite career progression in this industry. If you're willing to learn new skills and gain new qualifications, then you can progress to either a supervisor or a manager. You can even specialised in a particular craft too. Whether that's carpentry, plastering or even brick layering, there are countless opportunities. But at the end of the day, how you progress in this industry is all down to you.

3. Working With a Team

According to a study reported in The Fast Company, the construction industry has the happiest workforce. And one of the main reasons for this was down to building strong working relationships with colleagues. Having a strong team bond within colleagues is crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of construction workers. And strong team building skills is also a welcome addition to your CV too.

4. New Challenges

In most careers, it's easy to be excited about them early on until you've spent day in and day out doing the same thing monotonously. In construction, each project brings something new and exciting. It could be a new location or a new building style. The construction industry always brings new challenges.

Construct a Better Life

Maybe you are struggling financially or have a growing family that demands more support. Perhaps you have a passion for working with your hands. Maybe you're just bored of the job you have or feel it doesn't allow you to contribute to your community in the ways you wish you could. Whatever your reasons are, you should definitely explore opportunities in the construction. The growth of this industry is no secret. And we at The The Learning Station can help you make your step.
