Level two training will equip you with the understanding and knowledge to work with babies and with young children from newborns to those who are
seven years of age with further applied knowledge that is specific to early years development from birth to five years of age.

With this qualification, you will be able to work in nurseries and in other childcare settings.

To take this qualification you will not need to have had any previous experience or qualifications, although having worked in this area in a day
nursery or similar setting will be useful. https://www.thelearningstation.co.uk/city- and-guilds-level-2-diploma-for-the-early-years-practitioner-early-years-educator-course

For this level 2 qualification in early years, you would have to be 16 years or older. To gain the qualification will require the learner to have 37 credits that
must be attained from each of the mandatory 14 units.

Assessment of progress during this course will be undertaken using several different methods. Outcomes that are knowledge-based can be assessed by
assessment tasks. When it comes to outcomes that are skills-based, these must be undertaken and assessed within an actual working environment and must also include assessment by direct observation while the learner is working with
children. https://www.thelearningstation.co.uk/city-and-guilds-level-2-diploma-for-the- early-years-practitioner-early-years-educator-course

On average it will take around about one year to complete all the modules and assessments that are required, to be awarded this qualification. Applicants and
learners will be required to be working hands-on, to be volunteering in a suitable environment or to be working on a practical placement.

This is so that they can show that they have the knowledge as well as the skill and have the competence required for this type of work. A general recommendation is that a learner should complete around 250 hours in placement while they are
working for this particular qualification. https://www.thelearningstation.co.uk/city- and-guilds-level-2-diploma-for-the-early-years-practitioner-early-years-educator-course

Time spent working in placements must be sufficient so that the learner's proficiency in looking after young children can be assessed for their eventual
qualification.

This is an area of study which continues to level five and many people have successfully completed all levels of training and made extremely good careers
for themselves in early years care of children.

There are several areas in which you can work with the Level Two Early Years qualification and as an early years practitioner within the early years
workforce. With a level 2 qualification, you would expect to work in areas such as:

  • A school classroom assistant
  • A pre-school practitioner
  • A nursery practitioner
