New Developments For Haringey Announced

This past week, the Haringey Council's website published a news item to inform us of new plans to further develop and regenerate Haringey. These new developments will allow Haringey to benefit from thousands of new homes whilst creating a significant number of jobs for the area. For the construction sector, this is welcoming news. Haringey council set up a new innovative partnerships called Haringey Development Vehicle (HDV). It is a 50/50 partnership between the council and development partners Lendlease. Lendlease are a company that specialises in project management and construction. They also have a long & successful track record of providing their services to the UK government.

What's New For Haringey?

The new developments aims to improve both public spaces and community facilities. It will aim to bring:
  • Brand new and improved homes for current council tenants, with a guaranteed right to return on equivalent terms.

  • Thousands of jobs for a range of different industries.
  • Further regeneration plans and improvement of local services through reinvestment of council profits.
  • A new health centre.

As you can see, the above project brings a very promising future to Haringey. Since the announcement of these plans, Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Planning said: “We've been clear that successful regeneration has to have the best interests of Haringey's communities at its heart, and that we're determined to help more Haringey residents live in quality homes in the borough. “That's why I'm delighted that the Cabinet have approved this new development partnership, which will enable us to deliver the new homes, jobs and facilities that local people have made it clear they want to see.” The initial proposals for the first phase of the site will be in the summer of 2017.

Get Your CSCS Card With The Learning Station

Before you even think about working on a construction site, you need to have a CSCS card. Most companies and contractors in the construction sector have made it a requirement to have all their staff hold a CSCS card. A CSCS card is an assessment-based qualification which proves holders have the necessary knowledge and skills of health and safety of working on a construction site. You have to keep in mind that a construction site is one of the most hazardous places to work in. Since it's introduction back in 1995, the number of reported incidents has significantly reduced. The scheme's impact has been significant. It has given the UK construction sector the public vote of confidence and also made the UK the safest construction sector across Europe. The Learning Station can help you get your green CSCS labourer card. To hold this card, you would need to complete the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment and then pass your CITB Health, Safety and Environment test. Please note though, you would need to already hold the Level 1 award before attempting to the CITB test. For more information, please visit our courses page.
