The health and social care industry is not for everyone. Those who have worked in this industry and didn't enjoy their time working in this sector will have something negative to say.
These negative opinions will end up forming a number of myths and will eventually deter people from experiencing a truly rewarding career.
It is true that every career will have its downsides. But the health and social care industry does seem to get harshly treated by these myths.
The aim of this blog post is to debunk these myths and so you would consider a career in this highly rewarding industry
There is No Job Satisfaction
This is a fairly common myth. And for me to debunk this myth, it really boils down to your own perspective and knowing what motivates you. It is true that working in the health and social care industry can be very challenging. Some days will be tougher than others. And not every day will be the same. Some roles will involve caring for the same people on a daily basis. Other roles will involve seeing different patients every day. But what you really need to ask yourself is what motivates you? If you're motivated by getting a higher pay packet, then a career in health and social care is not for you. Job satisfaction is only achieved by those individuals who are committed to making a difference to those who need it the most. Your personality plays a huge factor when it comes to working in this industry. If you get motivated by helping people and making a difference to society, then you will definitely find plenty of fulfilment in the health and social care sector. You Don't Get Paid Enough
Another common myth. But this is actually very easy to debunk. Just like any career, if you're willing to work hard and gain extra qualifications, then you will see your salary rise. To give you an overview of your salary expectations, here are the salary brackets based on level of health and social care qualification that you've achieved:- Level 2 Diploma — a starting salary of £15,000 per annum.
- Level 3 Diploma — a minimum of £22,000 per annum. A holder of this qualification would be expected to be either a team leader or senior member of staff.
- Level 5 Diploma — between £33,000 to £50,000 per annum. Holding this qualifications allows you to go into management.
