Functional Skills Courses in Haringey

If you're looking to improve either your English, Maths or ICT skills, or you don't possess the qualifications to prove that you have these skills, then you would need to complete a functional skills course. Having good English, Maths and ICT skills are absolutely necessary if you want to get into university or secure a decent job. Without these skills, you are limiting your opportunities for a better future. These key functional skills are usually possessed after your GCSEs; when you've finished secondary school. But we all know that it's not the same for everyone. We do acknowledge how unforeseen circumstances can happen. It can happen to anyone. And these events can prevent you from achieving your qualifications to show you have the functional skills to succeed in either education, training and employment. Thankfully, we at The Learning Station provide you with a second chance of obtaining your functional skills qualifications.

How Long Does The Course Take?

Once you have registered, you have up to 6 months to complete the course. Each level takes around 8 to 14 weeks to complete, based on 3 to 4 hours studying a week.

How Would My Opportunities Open Up Once I Have Gained My Functional Skills Qualification?

On completion of both Level 1 and 2 of your functional skills course, you will have achieved a GCSE equivalent qualification. This will open up more opportunities for you on the job front and help you get a place on the access course at university. (The access course is A-Level equivalent qualification that is taught at university.)

Why Are These Functional Skills Important?

To answer this question, we are going to explain why each functional skill is important: English 32% of employers are dissatisfied by the level of young people's literacy. Having good literacy levels shows employers you have the confidence in reading, writing and communicating. And according the National Literacy Trust, people who do have low literacy levels have low confidence and receive a lower wage. Maths Good numeracy skills shows employers that you're not just great with numbers but you're also good at making judgements and decisions. In a study published on National Numeracy's website; people who have low numeracy skills are more likely to lead a life of crime and have poorer health. ICT Lack of ICT skills really affects your chances of securing employment. If we look at any sector, be it the food service industry, retail or manufacturing; computer programs play an integral role in helping these sectors run efficiently. Employers today expect their staff to have some form of computer literacy to be able to run their company.
