CSCS Cards in Haringey

Haringey is about to undergo a £2bn regeneration scheme, creating 5000 new homes in the process. This is welcoming news for Haringey council. And for those wanting to find work in the construction industry. The introduction of the CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card in 1995 has improved the level of health and safety standards to work on a construction site. Resulting in fewer reported incidents and achieving a public vote in confidence for the UK construction sector. No wonder why the construction industry has the happiest work force. The CSCS card is a knowledge-based qualification. It proves construction workers have the required knowledge and experience in health, safety  and environmental awareness. There are many different types of CSCS cards, with each one representing either a specialist skill or level of seniority. In this blog post, we share the 7 main types of CSCS cards, and what you need to do obtain them.

1. The Labourer Card (Green)

This card allows labourers to work on a construction site. It shows workers have the fundamental understanding of health, safety and the environmental awareness of working on a construction site. To qualify for this card, workers must already have attained a Level 1 in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment and have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness test.

2.The Apprenticeship Card (Red)

The Apprenticeship Card is for anyone who is registered on an apprenticeship scheme in the construction industry. To apply for this card, you are required to present a written letter from either your Managing Agency or your apprenticeship training provider to confirm that you are on the apprenticeship. You may be exempt from CITB Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness test if you do possess a health and safety certificate or a letter from your Managing Agency that clearly states that you have the necessary health and safety awareness.

3. Experience Technical, Supervisory and Manager (Red)

This card is for anyone who is a supervisor or manager with hands-on experience and working towards a construction related NVQ Level 3, 4, 5 (or QCF Level 6 or 7) qualification. Holders of this card must have passed the CITB Health, Safety and Environment Awareness test. This test must be completed in the last two years in order to apply for this card.

4. Skilled Worker Card (Blue)

This card is awarded to any one who has completed either a Level 2 construction related NVQ or SVQ or an employer sponsored apprenticeship which includes the achievement of a City and Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate. If you do not have these qualifications, then you can apply for the experience worker card while you're completing the qualification.

5. Advanced Craft (Gold)

This card is awarded to anyone who holds a Level 3 construction related NVQ or SCQ or completed an employer sponsored apprenticeship. The apprenticeship must include the achievement of a City and Guilds of London Institute Craft Certificate. All applicants need to hold CITB Health, Safety and Environmental test in the last two years. And depending on the type of advanced craft you intend to go into, you may have to pass either a operative or specialist test.

6. Supervisory Card (Gold)

Holders of this card must have either a Level 3 or 4 NVQ or SVQ in construction related supervisory. This card will allow you to supervise staff on a construction site. All applicants must pass the Supervisory CITB test in Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness test.
