Why You Should Consider a Career in Child Care

If you don't know what kind of career you want, then you're going to have to start asking some serious questions.
You need to ask yourself:
What job sectors are in the most demand?
Out of those sectors that are in demand, will I enjoy what I'll do?
What are career prospects like in these sectors?
Will I achieve a good work life balance?
The harsh truth is that not every career will tick all of those boxes. But if you can find a career that ticks all these boxes for yourself you'll live a life of contentment.

Working in childcare accomplishes at least two of the four career questions above. There's plenty of work available for those interested in childcare. It's also a fantastic way to balance your work and family life. If you think it might also fulfill the other two questions then read on. There are several reasons to consider a career in child care.

1. High Demand

According to Nursery World, with the rise in population, the UK is expected to see 500 new nurseries open by year 2020. I also pointed out the population of secondary aged students will grow by 20% by 2024 in a recent post. Meaning growth in the population of young children as well.

Which leads to plenty of job opportunities in this field, saving you the stress of looking for work.

2. You Loved Your First Baby-Sitting Job

You may also consider a career in child care if you loved your first babysitting job. For many of us, our first working experience was babysitting. Either watching our younger siblings or the neighbors children for £20 an evening.

If you enjoyed your experience watching kids, you're already suited for this type of work. Now you'll be able to help children as they develop.

3. Being a Mentor

Maybe you didn't have younger siblings to babysit. Maybe you wish you'd had someone looking up to you their whole life. By working in childcare you'll get practice being a mentor, which is kind of like being an older sibling.

Being a mentor teaches you leadership skills that you can transfer to any career. Also, by working one side of the relationship you'll gain a greater perspective on the other. Which can help you when seeking your own mentors.

4. Work Life Balance

Work life balance is high on the agenda when it comes to choosing the right career. Everyone wants to know how to achieve harmony between their career and being a family man or woman. The trouble is, many jobs make you work unpredictable hours that keep you away from your family.

As a childcare professional you'll likely be able to work with kids the same age as your own young children. This means you can spend more time with your children by enrolling them where you work. Even if you don't yet have children you can achieve a great work life balance. Many jobs like this are on a set predictable schedule, which makes it easy to plan around.

5. Contributing to the Future

Child care professionals are educators in their own right. The time you spend with these children early on can have a great impact on their behavior. Their early education can be a catalyst for the rest of their lives.

We've all had positive and negative experiences with adults when we were young. A career in child care gives you the opportunity to have a positive impact on someone's life.
