8 Apps To Help You Set Goals (And Then Stick To Them)

We set goals to become a better version of ourselves. The right goals can help us become more healthier, happier and become more productive. But there is one main setback to setting goals: it is hard to stick with them. Unless if you have an incredible amount of will-power, achieving your goals can seem extremely daunting. And it won't be long before we begin to procrastinate and end up binge-watching Netflix. Our important to-do list, which leads us to our goals, drops down the pecking order. And then we get nothing done. But thanks to our smartphones, we now have access to a huge selection of apps that can help us to stick our goals. And we've shortlisted our favourite eight apps:

1. Habitica

Gaming is one of the world's most popular pastimes. Regardless of what age you are, people will spend  hours playing their favourite video games. At this point, you may be asking why am I talking about video games in a post about goal setting? The answer is Habitica.  Habitica is a goal tracking app modelled after classic RPG video games. In Habitica, you create a character and assign him/her your daily self-improvement goals. The more daily goals you achieve, the more prizes you win. This app is incredibly popular. More than two million people have downloaded this app.

2. Way of Life

When I first found this app I remember thinking, “this, this is exactly what I've been looking for”. Instead of just setting positive goals, you can also remind yourself of things you shouldn't do. When you first install the app, you have to set a time to remind yourself when you have to check in so you can update the app with your progress. This helps you keep a routine log of your daily goals you have set and over time it will give you a visual representation to see how you are doing.

3. Momentum

Essentially, Momentum is a calendar that incorporates your daily goals. If you do what you're supposed to do the app fills that day in green for each task. If you skip a day or fail it, the block for that day is greyed out. I like this app because it lets me put my mild OCD to good use. I know that if my screen isn't completely green by the end of the day it'll make my skin crawl.

4. Stakes

The problem with most resolutions is that there is rarely any risk involved. Unless you have some good friends or money to spend on a personal trainer nobody is going to hold you accountable. But what if I told you your own bank account can hold you accountable? Then you're more likely to stick to your goals right? Stakes is an app that allows you put in a stake for a particular goal. You can set a different amount for each goal you have set yourself. To give you an example, let's say you buy a stake of £15 for the goal of going to the gym every day for a month. If you fail this goal, then you'll lose your stake.

5. Remente

Remente helps to break down overwhelmingly large goals into small manageable task. For example, if your goal is to become healthier, you can break that task down into: drinking more water, counting your calories for the day, and committing to one hour of exercise. Breaking daunting tasks down into smaller parts makes them less frightening. Also included in the app are courses you can sign up for as well as various metrics you can track, including your mood.

6. Habit Bull

Habit Bull acts as a habit journal by keeping track of your successful logins and creating personalised graphs to track your success. Each goal gets its own calendar and access to a message board where members of the habit tracking community discuss their goals.

7. Coach Me

Coach Me is a community focused goal setting app. When you set a goal you get sorted into a group of people working toward that same goal. Each goal gets its own message board so that its members can keep each other motivated.

8. Strides

Strides is one of the most well-rounded tracking apps out there. This is thanks in part to its four types of trackers; target, habit, average, and milestone. On the surface strides seems a little boring but that's why I think it's perfect. It doesn't try to be flashy, however, it is incredibly polished. This is an app that does exactly what it claims and it does it well. You won't need all of these apps to reach your personal goals but hopefully, you can use this list as a guide to decide which app will work best for you. Thanks for reading. Did I leave out any great habit tracking or goal setting apps? Please let me know in the comments section below. Also feel free to share this list with a friend who may find it useful.
