7 Ways Evernote Can Help You Study

Evernote is a note-taking iOS and Android app that works across multiple devices - PC, mobile and tablet. It is extremely popular with students and avid note-takers. The app helps to keep all of your notes in one place, so you don't have to sift through a piles of paper to find what you're looking for. If you are not familiar with the app and you want to find out how this app can help you study, then take a look at the 7 ways that we've identified below:

1. Capture Information In Several Ways

Across android and iOS there is a flood of note-taking applications but for some time now, Evernote has been the gold standard. This is largely due to the variety of notes you can keep track of. If you're leaving class and need to take a picture of what your teacher wrote on the board, you can open the app and snap a photo. Similarly, you can collect web clippings for research assignments, record audio or  you can just take traditional text-based notes if you need to quickly jot something down.

2. Stay Organised

Many students have backpacks full of notebooks. And if you're not organised, notes can go astray and can even get lost inside your own backpack. Evernote, on the other hand, helps you keep your notes organised. And it'll keep your backpack feeling much lighter too.  So if you have several research papers across multiple subjects, you can tag them based on their topics to add another layer of organisation.

3. Sync Across Devices

Although Evernote recently made the controversial decision to limit their free users to only sync between two devices, this has turned out (at least for me) to be not as bad as many had originally thought.  I keep my Evernote account synced on my phone and my laptop. I use my phone as my main device to capture information on-the-go. And I use my laptop to access my notes to review or add any further information where required.  This setup will work for most people, however, if it doesn't you can always upgrade to one of their premium packages.

4. Search Images For Text

If you want to save time from copying text on a white board (or black board) whilst you're in class, you can take a picture of it on your smartphone and then save it on your Evernote app. You may asking couldn't I just take a picture on my phone without Evernote? Well, the most amazing thing about this app is that you can search for text within an image. A standard image capture on a smartphone won't allow you to do that. This will save you even more time transcribing text from images.

5. Sharing and Discussing Notes

A somewhat new feature for Evernote is Work Chat. Although I didn't have a use for it when I was in university, the use for this feature is fairly obvious. If you are assigned a group project, it will be beneficial to you and the rest of your group. Work Chat allows your group to communicate effectively about the progress of your project and exchange ideas and even notes that you've create on the app.

6. Mark Up

While Work Chat is all well and good when you don't have the option of seeing your team in person. It can be tricky to communicate complex ideas through chat. Evernote gives you the ability to take a photo of your project (if it's something physical) and then use markup to add any additional information to add clarity to the image. This can help clear up possible confusion and a great deal of time.

7. Reminders

It may seem like an overlooked feature but having reminders or a task list at hand is always the best way to stay on top of your most important action items. And unlike a scrap piece of paper that you write your to-do list on and then cram into your backpack, this list will notify you when it is time to get to work. Thanks to feature of adding a time slot of when you need to do the task. Thanks for reading. Are you an Evernote user? Did I miss anything important about the apps many virtues?
