5 Tips For Teaching People With Learning Difficulties.

Learning difficulties may be a result of various conditions, yet the methods to overcome the obstacles of teaching anybody who struggles to understand, are very similar. We have collected five great ways to make learning easier for those with learning difficulties. 1. Divide The Lesson Into Manageable Segments Ensure that the lesson is divided up into short, easy to complete tasks. Overloading the student with too many tasks and information can become confusing and difficult. Explain each individual task in detail, and help the students when needed. 2. Ensure The Student Understands What Is Expected Before beginning any task or module, make sure that the students understand what is expected of them. Go through the process step by step, and ask if the instructions make sense. If the students cannot grasp what is needed, try explaining ina different way, or presenting an example. 3. Be Structured & Consistent When preparing your lessons, ensure that each lesson follows a similar structure. Do not miz and match lesson plans or change your approach completely. Changing the structure of your lesson plan can disrupt the student's rhythm. Instead, set out a simple, reliable lesson plan which can be implemented each lesson. This will promote and encourage the students to get into a routine. 4. Give Regular Feedback, Praise and Encouragement. When students complete a task successfully, it is essential that you praise them and encourage similar performance in the future. Students with learning disabilities thrive off praise and approval. Similarly, offer polite, constructive feedback on how the student can improve. 5. Give The Student Lengthy Notice When Transitions Need To Occur. When setting and supervising tasks, give your students ample time to complete the task. Ask the class if they are in need of more time, or if they are ready to move on. Hurrying tasks can cause students to lose interest, and even become upset that they were not able to complete it. If certain students are falling behind, offer them your attention. Using these techniques, your students will feel much happier in their place of study, and ready to engage. If possible, arranging students with difficulty learning into one group would be ideal, as this will allow you to direct extra attention towards them.
